A prepaid (or extended) maintenance plan covers scheduled services-oil changes, filters, inspections, wear items-for a set term or mileage. You pay upfront; then repairs are included.

**How they work:**
- You choose a plan (typically 3-7 years or 30,000-100,000 miles)
- Covered services are listed (synthetic oil changes, tire rotations, inspections, brake pads, etc.)
- You pay nothing at service time for covered work
- Some plans are transferable if you sell; others aren't

**Pros:**
- Predictable costs; no surprise repair bills
- Encourages preventive maintenance, extending vehicle life
- Can increase resale appeal

**Cons:**
- Upfront cost; you may not use all covered services
- Only covers routine wear, not accidents or major failures
- Some dealers offer better value than others
