Cold weather drains battery power because chemical reactions inside the battery slow down when temperatures drop. A battery that's 50% effective in summer may only be 30% effective at 0F.

**Keep your battery strong:**
Have your battery tested annually, especially before winter. Keep battery terminals clean and free of corrosion. If your battery is more than 3-5 years old, consider replacing it before cold season arrives.

**If you're stranded:**
Keep jumper cables or a portable jump starter in your vehicle. Modern cars also benefit from keeping the engine off for a few seconds before turning it over-let the fuel injection prime.

**Professional help at Castle CDJR of Chesterton:**
Our Service team can test your battery, clean terminals, and replace it if needed. Stop by or call **(219) 250-9487** to schedule a quick battery check before winter hits.
